Development of geographic fatty liver.

چکیده
Geographic fatty liver is sometimes revealed on computed tomography (CT) images. In patients with this condition, perivascular fat deposition characterized by halos of fat surrounding the hepatic and/or portal vein develops; however, the pathogenesis remains unknown (1, 2). A 30-year-old man developed severe alcoholic hepatitis. Initial abdominal CT revealed homogeneous fatty liver with mild maldistribution of the arterioportal blood flow. After five months of abstinence, CT showed a resolution of the steatosis in addition to the development of more obvious arterioportal maldistribution, possibly associated with liver regeneration. Dominant areas of arterial flow were enhanced geographically in the arterial phase and became obscure in the portal phase. Two years after the initial examination, the patient began drinking again, and CT disclosed geographic periportal fat deposition throughout the entire liver. The areas without fat deposition corresponded approximately to arterial dominant areas.

Background and Aim: Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and gallstone disease (GD) are both highly prevalent in the general population and have many risk factors in common. The aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of GD in the patients with NAFLD. Materials and Methods: In this case-control study, our case group included 145 patients with NAFLD and control group consisted of 21...
متن کاملAssociation of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Dis-ease and Diabetic Retinopathy in Patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: a Cross-Sectional Study
Background: Diabetic retinopathy is a common chronic complication of diabetes and one of the leading causes of acquired blindness in the world. There is growing evidence that traditional risk factors do not fully justify the onset and progression of diabetic retinopathy. Therefore, some other risk factors such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease may be involved in the pathophysiology of diabe...

Background and Aim: Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) is the major cause of chronic liver disease in developed countries. In this study, we identified the most important transcription factors and biological mechanisms affecting the incidence of fatty liver disease using the promoter region data mining. Materials and Methods In this study, at first, the marker genes associated with this...
متن کاملAssociation of adiponectin level with biochemical variables and insulin resistance in patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease in an Iranian population
Background: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is one of the most important chronic liver disorders worldwide. Adipokines are polypeptide hormones that participate in the pathogenesis of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Adiponectin is an adipokine that stimulates fatty acid oxidation in muscle and plays a role in the development of insulin sensitivity. This study aimed to investigate the assoc...
